Blog Review: Word Explosions

Wordexplosions.blogspot.com is an overall a good blog. The bloggers explain their points well and link their thoughts together. There are some class assignments that are missing, such as chapter reviews. Also, a title for the assignments would be very helpful to help the readers identify what is the blog topic rather than just showing the dates. As said earlier, the blog looks decent and bloggers are doing a great job conveying their thoughts together in the group posts, and explain their individual statement in their own posts.

The blog does lack a few aspects of our class's Blog Quality Criteria list which are: Frequency of the posts; Voice; Passion; Expertise; Good writing; Aesthetically Pleasing; User-friendly; Originality/Interesting; and Relevance.
The post on this blog is somewhat frequent with their posts. They are some that I think are missing like the Chapter reviews from few of the members. As stated on the image below this paragraph, "One does not simply blog twice a week." But if the blogger(s) does only blog twice a week, the blogs has to have the other Blog Quality Criteria.
The Voice is some of their posts are somewhat boring. They are state their opinions but does not completely explain why they end up with that opinion. It appears like they are truly not delineating what their thoughts are. There is no excitement in the voice. Thus, there are no traces of passion or expertise.
Good writing is shown in all of the blogs. Grammar usage and the use of punctuation is well-used, and overall, clean.

Other aspects such as aesthetically pleasing and user-friendly are pleasing. There isn't much of aesthetics that appears besides the background or the pictures are oriented in every posts (cause there has be one in every single post). It is somewhat user-friendly from the stand point the small blocks for every post can be easily accessed.

There originality of the post with their standpoints and all their statements are relevant.

AKA121 Blog Review

The blog name is catchy for sure, it immediately caught my attention! Personally I think the blog could use a little bit more color and possibly pictures, just to keep the reader entertained and interested in what they are reading and looking at. The all white background I feel could make people lose interest Farley quick. Aside from that, it is very organized and the content is 100% relevant to the topics at hand.

I think that this blog is very well organized. The first thing that caught my eye was the background the clouds in the background make it a interseting blog to look at. It looks like they have put a lot of time and effort in the blog. What they write about is very interesting, they seem to post things on a regular baises. Everything is also organized which is nice when you are looking for particular thing in a blog.
They are defintitly following the blog criteria they came up with. It is organized, clear, and focused. which where one of the few things that stood out to me.
Visually the blog is awsome they have good pictures. It seems they put alot of thought into what picture they want to choose for their topic. It is not just a random picture which is good.Overall I think this blog group did a great job. It is interesting that is what I belive matters, catching other peoples attention and it sure does.

Lifosuction

Reading Closely and Thinking Critically

One: Lifosuction is often attempted when issues of class are on the line.

Two: Its easy to express something through physical reactions, but on the other hand it is extremely difficult to not mention anything when lifosuction is involved.

Three: Its a common "procedure". "Musicians for instance have a powerful incentive to make sure that public pose and personal background are appropriately in sync". To cover up any unwanted mistakes.

Four: Paragraph six states "humble origins can be a political asset". It can be used to manipulate other peoples feelings. People tend to relate to those better who have gone through similar experiences as them. In most situations like that, people will often try and downplay their privileges in order to gain ones sympathy and or affection in a situation.

Five: It is ironic because he did have his college degree, and its the truth so he changed it to pretty much show hes a normal college kid and not "Shrewd Picking".

Examining Structure and Strategy

One: Thesis-Rather than looking at lifosuction as a negative thing, maybe we should just encourage people to eliminate even more of themselves from the public eye then they already do.

Two: The tone is argumentative, he is trying to inform you but also persuade you to see his point of view.

Three: Its contrasting it to show the idea of lifosuction, the rest of the article is completely opposite of the main idea.

Four: His topic sentences are all introducing his arguments for each paragraph.

Five:  He bases them off of his arguments...? Isn't it obvious? ^_^

Considering Language and Style

One: Yeah it is cleaver, because it is relating so much to the word Liposuction, so the more white lies you tell to cover up unwanted mistakes and issues, the more you get sucked into it.

Two: Done ^_^

Alyssas' Thesis: There are people that surprises to change for the better.

LeeAnns' Thesis: The average american family is not changing for the better.

Kristabels' Thesis: Life has surprising moments, sometimes good and sometimes bad.

Chapter 7

Many individuals use example in their writing to express their topic. Using examples will help an individual explain and generalize their ideas. Examples also help inform and persuade a reader . There are different types of ways you can put example in a paper. First hypothetical example which, are examples based on knowledge. Second, visual examples such as graphs, models, and charts. Third examples can be facts. There are many examples an individual can use to make their paper interesting they are much needed. Just like these roses can be examples of love, friendship, and happiness.

Chapter 5

Digital image. N.p., n.d. Web. 11 Sept. 1994.
Chapter 5 was  really interesting it really brings forward the word description. Description can entertain, express feelings , relate  experience, inform and persuade. It was interesting that we use descriptions all thru out the day. Many papers I write have a lot of description in them, it's the best way to express and show someone what an individual really means.
The most important things In this Chapter are  that using words to descriibe really bring a paper to life. A paper is most interesting  when an individual uses words that descrbe.

The girl in red

Line: Automatically, you are attracted to her face, which is looking down, and her arms are folded in her lap and angled in the same direction that she is looking, which makes you notice the mice and what shes looking at.

Color: The color red in the dress does not fit the age for the child. It is more mature that it should be. This emphasizes the expectation from the girl. She is expected mature than she's suppose to be. IN contrast, the soft and pale color of her skin shows her innocence, purity, and softness in her character. The background color has a dark brown shade; it contrast the brightness of color red of the dress. It shows or showing the societal background of the girl.

Texture: The flow of the painting is soft and calming. Even if the dress is a vibrant color you can still see her innocence. Her hair is natural, but she also looks grown up for her age.

Design/Layout: She seems to be expected to be more mature than she is seems to be a child. She looks unhappy practicing the flute and delight to see the mice. There is a lot expected from her at such a young age and a lot forced upon her.

Shape: The way she is sitting she does not seem too enthused about the flute, it shows how relaxed she is about what she is supposed to be doing and more interested in the mice that came along.

Light/Shadow: There's bright and dark. The bright is the front of the painting. In other words, the focus, which is the child. The brightness is reflecting her childhood; curiosity, vibrant character, and her potential talent, hence, the flute. The dark or shadow behind her could mean what's holding her back to what she wants, and that is her parents' conflicting idea on they want her to be.

Style: The style is persuasion, because her parents are being overwhelming, shown as the dark background and the vibrancy of her dress giving her a mature look. They are persuading to do something she does not want to do.

Medium: The medium is painting.

Assuming the truth (logical fallacy)

Just because something is true for one individual, doesn't mean it is true for everyone. Its generalizing a thought for a whole group, in turn, being bias about the thought or opinion. Like religion for an example, many people believe in a set religion but there may be other people that do not agree with said religion. In topic of religion, there are some aspects that overlap. Thus, some people are considerate of other religion, and there are some that are biased to their own religion, beliefs, and values, over others beliefs and values. As states in the picture below, "one person's 'version of the truth' can be totally different from another person's version of the truth.'" To simplify this fallacy, every individual have different opinions; some may agree or disagree; however, it is important to be specific or have a supporting  source or argument when the thought is said.

Avoiding this fallacy....

Keeping an open mind about other peoples ideas and opinions.

Be specific on how you arrived at your conclusion.

Think about the bigger picture rather then just the present moment and or thought.

Use specific adjectives rather then just the general use of the term.

Be straight forward about your opinion, avoid over explaining your statement.

Chapter 7 review

Personally speaking I think all the talk in this chapter about exemplification is and could be really helpful to me, sometimes I have problems using specific examples to clarify points, sometimes I just state my point without explaining so this might be helpful to me in English for future essays. Professionally speaking I think the part where it states "exemplification helps writers adhesive their purpose in many writing situations" is important to remember. But I also think the section of combining patterns for a purpose could be beneficial to many, like how to entertain your reader in different ways and make it informative and or some kind of process or analysis.

Hot Chicks in Nerd Land.

Hot Chicks in Nerd Land? No. Totally not the blog we wanted to say but we'll talking about the blog, Hot Chicks Dig Smart Men. It's true. Hot chicks do dig smart men, but we're totally in a different topic here. We're talking about the blog, Hot Chicks Dig Smart Men. Janiece, the blogger, have 117 members, or as she say her "minions." We questioned how she captivated her minions, until we read her articles. Janiece use language that reflects her own thoughts but at the same time she introduce problems that many people consider, which makes her blogs serious, sarcastic, and yet humorous. For example, in her blog, America! Fuck! Yeah, she question whether being a patriot a good thing or bad thing. As shown in the image of troops walking, she ask whether being a part of the U.S. Navy a good thing. Hence, she states, "Asking questions, and demanding answers, of a representative form of government is the act of a patriot." She concluded her essay with the thought that she feels like she is a part of the problem that America faces today due to the circumstances that she feels like she has responsibility on the actions that the government took, because of the reason that is a part of the U.S. Navy. In her essay, she ask the question on what other U.S. Navy think and yet reflects her own worries through her own words.
